2024 Cygnet Syrah
Our vineyard at Troon was designed to create diverse wine styles — some to be blended and some to stand on their own. As we taste the wines, some stand out for their distinct style, like our Cygnet Syrah, named after the baby swans you can find in our farm pond each spring. Incredibly savory and forward, we couldn’t resist bottling these wines as their own blend—Cygnet.
Troon Vineyard embraces syrah as a variety that can express different aspects of our terroir, a warmer-climate version of pinot noir. This wine includes three syrah clones grown on three different soil types on our estate: Joseph Phelps clone, clone 174, and
clone 470, each bringing distinctive layers of flavor and aromatics.
The 2024 Cygnet Syrah picks up on syrah’s ability to express savory and herbal elements in the wine and the fruit. This wine was made using approximately 33% whole-cluster fermentation, meaning the entire grape bunch was used without destemming followed by
maturation in old French oak barrels. The whole cluster adds spiciness and interesting herbal notes, adding depth to the readily available fruit flavors. Like our cygnets that our swans bring into the world each spring, our Cygnet Syrah is a gift to be enjoyed as soon as it’s born.
